OTTAWA — The federal government of Canada has announced a significant financial commitment of $675 million directed towards vaccination programs for children in developing countries. This funding is part of the broader effort to enhance global health initiatives and support immunization against various diseases.
The earmarked funds are intended for Gavi, commonly recognized as the Vaccine Alliance, and will be allocated over a period spanning from 2026 to 2030. This long-term investment highlights Canada's commitment to improving health outcomes for children in lower-income regions of the world.
According to the government's announcement, the financial support will be utilized to administer new malaria vaccines to an estimated 50 million children. Furthermore, it aims to extend human papillomavirus (HPV) protection to around 120 million girls, addressing significant health threats that can lead to long-term consequences if left unmitigated.
In addition to these vaccines, the funding will focus on enhancing the storage capabilities for children’s vaccine doses in remote and underserved areas.
