"Fatal Crash Claims Life of Nova Scotia Driver"

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left the driver and sole occupant dead Saturday

The Halifax Regional Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is conducting an investigation following a tragic single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, specifically at approximately 9:25 a.m., prompting an immediate response from RCMP officers, as well as local fire services and Emergency Health Services (EHS).

The crash took place on Highway 103, near Exit 5 in the community of Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia. According to the preliminary reports from the RCMP, a Toyota Matrix was traveling westbound when it veered off the roadway and entered a ditch. The nature of the crash suggests a loss of control, although the specific circumstances that led to this remain under investigation.

The driver involved in the accident has been identified as a 47-year-old woman from Dalhousie Junction, New Brunswick. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, highlighting the severity of the incident. Notably, there were no other individuals involved in the collision, making this an isolated event.

To assist with the investigation, an RCMP collision reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to analyze the crash site and gather critical evidence. Authorities took necessary precautions by closing a section of Highway 103 for several hours to ensure a thorough examination could be conducted without interference.

As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, the highway was temporarily closed to traffic, causing delays for motorists in the area. However, it has since been reopened. Despite the reopening of the highway, the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, as officials seek to determine the factors that contributed to the tragic accident.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with driving and the importance of road safety. The RCMP continues to urge drivers to remain vigilant and exercise caution while on the road. Further updates regarding the investigation will be provided as new information becomes available.
