Wegmans Food Markets has initiated a recall of frozen chicken nuggets across eight states and the District of Columbia due to potential contamination with bone fragments. This action follows a public health alert issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), aimed at informing customers to avoid consumption of the affected product.
The recall specifically targets 46-ounce plastic packages labeled as “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat,” which have a best if used by date of Aug. 26, 2025. This date can be found on the back of the packaging, located next to the barcode in the lower right corner. Importantly, the products were produced on Aug. 26, 2024, raising concerns about their safety after multiple complaints from consumers reported the presence of bone fragments.
The affected chicken nuggets were exclusively manufactured for Wegmans and have been distributed in several states, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Although there have been no confirmed injuries linked to the consumption of these nuggets, the FSIS is particularly worried that consumers may still have these products stored in their freezers.
Consumers who possess the recalled chicken nuggets are strongly urged to refrain from eating them. Instead, they should either dispose of the product or return it to the store where it was originally purchased. Wegmans has assured customers that full refunds will be issued for all returned packages.
For customers seeking further information, Wegmans has made their customer service available at 1-855-934-3663. Their representatives can be reached Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This recall emphasizes the company's commitment to consumer safety and the importance of addressing food safety concerns.
As this situation develops, Wegmans and the FSIS are advising customers to stay informed about potential health risks associated with improperly handled food products. Vigilance is key in maintaining food safety, and consumers are encouraged to monitor their inventories and promptly address any potentially unsafe items.
