"20 Years Later: Justice Hopes in DiBenedetto Case"

It’s been over 20 years since the death of Danny DiBenedetto as Halifax Regional Police continue to investigate his murder

On February 8, 2005, the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) responded to a shooting incident at a residence on Dartmoor Crescent in Bedford. This tragic event resulted in the death of 36-year-old Danny DiBenedetto, who was found with serious gunshot wounds. Emergency services rushed him to the hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The investigation indicates that the incident involved three masked suspects who entered DiBenedetto's home. During this confrontation, an altercation occurred, which led to DiBenedetto being shot. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, prompting ongoing efforts by the police to gather information and solve the case.

Descriptions of the suspects have been provided by authorities. The first suspect is described as a Black man wearing jeans, a black puffy jacket with fur around the collar, and a dark ski mask. The second suspect is also identified as a Black man, known for having his hair tied back; this individual was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit and a grey hooded sweatshirt, along with a dark ski mask. The third suspect remains more vaguely described as a Black male in a ski mask.

HRP is actively appealing to the public for any information that could assist in cracking this case. They emphasize that DiBenedetto's murder is considered part of the Major Unsolved Crimes Program. This initiative provides financial incentives, offering cash rewards of up to $150,000 for credible information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for such violent crimes.

In light of the ongoing investigation, HRP underscores the importance of community involvement in bringing closure to this long-standing case. The murder of Danny DiBenedetto remains a painful chapter in the Bedford community's history, and law enforcement officials continue to seek justice for him and his family.
