A joint statement from Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health outlines that the infection was contracted by a resident of Fraser Health. Public health officials are actively reaching out to individuals who may have been exposed to the virus following the return of the traveler.

The statement further advises the public that potential exposure to measles could have occurred on Air Canada flight 66, which arrived in Vancouver on February 11, or in the international arrivals area of Vancouver International Airport, particularly in customs or baggage claim, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. that day. Such exposure could place other individuals at risk, prompting health authorities to take necessary precautions.

Health officials remind the public that the majority of individuals in Canada are likely immune to measles either due to vaccination or prior infection.
