Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to be honored with the NAACP's Chairman's Award during the upcoming Image Awards ceremony, organized by the civil rights organization. This distinguished event will take place on Saturday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, spotlighting various categories, including entertainer of the year, best movie, and outstanding work of poetry.

Kamala Harris, who was defeated by Donald Trump in the most recent presidential election, made history as the first woman and the first person of color to serve in the capacity of Vice President. Her previously held positions include serving as a U.S. senator from California and as the state’s attorney general, showcasing her extensive background in public service and law enforcement.

Leon W. Russell, chair of the NAACP's national board of directors, expressed profound admiration for Harris, stating, "Vice President Kamala Harris is more than a leader — she is a force of change, driven by an unwavering passion to shape a brighter, more equitable future." He emphasized the honor of presenting her with the Chairman's Award, highlighting her relentless dedication to justice, equality, and societal improvement.

The NAACP's Chairman's Award is a prestigious accolade that has been awarded to several notable figures in the past. Recipients have included former President Barack Obama, the late Civil Rights leader John Lewis, and the late actress Ruby Dee. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of civil rights and equality in America.

The NAACP Image Awards, co-presented by the NAACP and BET, are celebrated annually, bringing together individuals from various sectors in entertainment to acknowledge their work and the impact they have on society. With a range of categories to be honored, the event underscores the importance of portrayal and representation in media, as well as the role of art in advocating for social change.

This year’s awards carry an added significance as Kamala Harris continues to navigate her role as Vice President amidst a complex political landscape. The recognition from the NAACP serves not only as a testament to her contributions thus far but also as motivation for her ongoing efforts in championing equity and justice across the United States.
